Last weekend we attended the launch of More! a recipe book. It was noted at the launch it is the first allergen-free recipe book in South Africa. Written by Sylvie Hurford , mother of Gabriel and Rose, the collection of recipes were tried and tested over the years on her infants and during their childhood. Sylive says of the book : A labour of love, many years in the making. Both children are now completely allergy-free. The recipes introduce the correct food types of vegetables; fruit; potatoes; baked items; beans in all their glory; meat; a chapter on all things sweet and finally a delightful chapter called ‘ Sleepy Time’.
The recipe book itself is beautifully designed with wonderful photos by Warren Heath. Published by Human & Rousseau. The launch took place at Societi Bistro and executive chef Stef Marais and his team provided a delicious allergy free lunch for guests using recipes from More.
In More Sylvie gives an introductory look at allergies. She explains why the recipes chosen for the book and used in her home have been egg, fish, dairy, wheat and nut free. The ease of the recipes and accessibility of the ingredients gives much needed support to parents and families battling with severely allergic children.
