Escape Cycle Tours and African Relish invite you to get on your bicycle and head for Prince Albert in the Great Karoo. Come and unwind with some creative cooking and cycling up the mighty Swartberg Pass and down into The Hell. Spend 5 to 6 days on a culinary adventure while you work off the extra calories on your bike.
The pricing of this tour all depends if you would be using the transporter from Johannesburg or doing a self drive to Prince Albert.

5 night / 6 day Itinerary OR 6 night / 7 day Itinerary

Day 1 (optional, only if you make use of the Transporter from Johannesburg)
Depart Johannesburg after breakfast for Kuilfontein, our midway stop to Prince Albert.
Kuilfontein Stable Cottages is a Karoo oasis conveniently situated with gates on the N1, 12 km south from Colesberg in the Northern Cape. The Southey family have converted their famous racehorse stables into a guest house of chic country appeal.
Arrive at Kuilfontein in the afternoon – check in.
An afternoon ride is an option.
Dinner will be served at the Paddocks.

Day 2
Depart for Prince Albert after breakfast – arrive at about 13:00. Enjoy a light lunch before a quick check in.
This afternoon there will be a hands-on cooking session – time for sundowners & freshen up before “tucking” in to this delicious cuisine.
Dinner at African Relish.

Day 3
Early start at 06:30 – meet at African Relish for coffee & rusks.
Cycle to De Rust via Prince Albert Valley & Meiringspoort Pass.
Breakfast will be served at the top of Kredouw Pass.
Enjoy a refreshing swim at the spectacular waterfall with soaring cliff walls and rock formations that line the 25 km tarred road which winds along the floor of the gorge, crossing the Groot River 25 times. The road through the poort is a remarkable engineering feat, but the overwhelming features of a cycle through Meiringspoort are the wonders of nature. The folds of the Table Mountain sandstone strata tower above the road, constantly changing colour as you move through sunlight and shade.

Return to Prince Albert in transporter, stopping along the way for wine tasting
Dinner at African Relish
Distance: 30 – 85 kms

Day 4
Coffee and rusks at African Relish then depart with transporter up Swartberg Pass. OR cycle up Swartberg Pass!
Unrack bikes and cycle along the road to The Hell (16km).
Enjoy a gourmet breakfast in the veld at Kliphuisvlei.
Travel to (The Hell) Gamkaskloof in transporter, enjoy lunch under the trees and & an educational about Die Hel.
After lunch return to top of Swartberg Pass and cycle down into Prince Albert

Distance: 16-40 kms

Day 5
Meet at African Relish for coffee & delicious homemade rusks.
Cycle to Weltevrede Fig Farm (26km)
Enjoy a country brunch at Weltevrede Farm and a tour of the fig orchards.
Return to Prince Albert with transporter or cycle back.
Have lunch and then the afternoon at leisure!!
17:00 – Gather at Prince Albert Hotel for astronomy talk and star gazing
Dinner at African Relish with star gazing into the night.

Day 6
Early morning cycle around Prince Albert.
Breakfast at African Relish, then at leisure to explore the many interesting shops in Prince Albert. Olive oil tasting at 11:00
13:00 Light lunch at African Relish followed by cooking another demonstration.
18:30 Ghost walk and village ramble – Ailsa Tudhope, historian and story teller, takes you on a journey back in time
with tales of ghosts and village rogues from the past.

Day 7
Depart for our homeward journey at 5am with our delicious packed breakfast from African Relish.
